ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ನಗರ ಶಿರಾ(ಸಿರಾ), ತುಮಕೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ತಾಲೂಕು ಕೇಂದ್ರ.ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷರು ಅಧಿಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮೊದಲು ಶಿರಾ ರಾಜಕೀಯವಾಗಿ ಹಾಗು ಸೈನಿಕವಾಗಿ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭಾರತದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪ್ರದೇಶವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ೧೬೩೮ ರಿಂದ ೧೬೮೭ ರವರೆಗೆ ಶಿರಾ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಬಿಜಾಪುರದ ಅರಸರು ಆಳಿದರು (ರತ್ನಗಿರಿಯ ರಂಗಪ್ಪ ನಾಯಕನಾಳಿದ ಸ್ಥಳ ೧೬೮೬ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಘಲರ ವಶವಾಗಿ ಫೌಜುದಾರಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರವಾಯಿತು). ೧೬೮೭ ರಿಂದ ೧೭೫೭ ರವರೆಗೆ ಮೊಘಲರ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಗೊಳಪಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು. ನಂತರದ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೈದರ್ ಆಲಿಯಿಂದ ಆಳಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು.

ಶಿರಾ(ಸಿರಾ) ನಗರದ ಕೋಟೆಯ ಚರಿತ್ರೆ

ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಬಲಾಢ್ಯವಾದ ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಕೋಟೆ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಕಂದಕವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ಕೆರೆಯ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲೇ ಇರುವುದರಿಂದ ರಾಜರ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಳೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂದಕಗಳಿಗೆ ನೀರನ್ನು ಹರಿದು ಬಿಟ್ಟು, ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊಸಳೆಯಂತಹ ಜಲಚರಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾಕಿ ಶತ್ರುಗಳಿಂದ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಶಿರಾ ಕೋಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಘಲ್ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿ ದಿಲಾವರ್ ಖಾನ್ ಬೆಳೆಸಿದ ಸುಂದರ ಉದ್ಯಾನವನವೇ ಹೈದರಾಲಿ ಲಾಲ್ ಬಾಗ್ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲು ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿ ನೀಡಿತ್ತು. ಇದು ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಿಂದ ೫೦ ಕಿ.ಮೀ ದೂರವಿದೆ ಹಾಗು ರಾಜಧಾನಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು ೧೨೫ ಕಿಮಿ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಹೆದ್ದಾರಿ ೪ (ಪುಣೆ-ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ರಸ್ತೆ) ಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ.

ಶಿರಾ(ಸಿರಾ) ನಗರವು ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಆಡಳಿತಕ್ಕೂ ಮೊದಲು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭಾರತದ ಒಂದು ಬಹುಮುಖ್ಯ ಯುದ್ಧತಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ನಗರವಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಈ ನಗರದ ಹಾಗು ಕೋಟೆಯ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯ ಹಿರಿಮೆ ರತ್ನಗಿರಿಯ ನಾಯಕ, ರಾಜಾಕಸ್ತೂರಿರಂಗಪ್ಪನಾಯಕರಿಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದುದರಿಂದಲೇ ಈ ಅದ್ಭುತವಾದ ಕೋಟೆಯು ರಾಜಾಕಸ್ತೂರಿರಂಗಪ್ಪ ನಾಯಕನ ಕೋಟೆ ಎಂದೇ ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಒಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಾಯಕ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ರಾಜರಾಗಿದ್ದನಾಯಕ ಸಮೂಧಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ನಿರೂಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ರಾಜಾಕಸ್ತೂರಿರಂಗಪ್ಪನಾಯಕರ ಕೋಟೆಯು ಅದ್ಭುತವಾದ ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳ ರಚನೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸುತ್ತಲು ಕಂದಕಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಈ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಕೋಟೆಯು ಸಿರಾ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕೆರೆಯ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲೇ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿತವಾಗಿರುವುದು ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ವಿಶೇಷ.

ಈ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯವು ೧೬೩೮ ರಿಂದ ೧೬೮೭ ವರೆಗೆ ಬಿಜಾಪುರದ ರಾಜರ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಗೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟಿತು. ೧೬೮೭ ರಿಂದ ೧೭೫೭ ರ ವರೆಗೆ ಮೊಗಲರ ಸಿರಾ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು. ನಂತರದ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮರಾಠಿಗರು ಮೊಗಲರಿಂದ ಈ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯವನ್ನು ವಶಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ೧೭೫೭ ರಿಂದ ೧೭೫೯ ರವರೆಗೆ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆ ನಡೆಸಿದರು. ೧೭೫೯ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊಗಲರು ಈ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ತಮ್ಮ ವಶಕ್ಕೆ ಪಡೆದಾಗ ಹೈದರ್ ಅಲಿ ಯು ೧೭೬೧ ರಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಈ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ನವಾಬನೆಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸಿಕೊಂಡನ್ನು. ಆದರೆ ೧೭೬೬ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮರಾಠಿಗರು ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಈ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದು ತಮ್ಮ ವಶಕ್ಕೆ ಪಡೆದರು. ೧೭೭೪ ರಲ್ಲಿ ಟಿಪ್ಪು ಸುಲ್ತಾನನು ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆ ಹೈದರ್ ಅಲಿ ಗಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಈ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯವನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ವಶಕ್ಕೆ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡನು.

ಇಂತಹ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಹಿನ್ನಲೆ ಇರುವ ಕೋಟೆಯು ಶಿಥಿಲಾವಸ್ಥೆ ತಲುಪಿದ್ದು ವಿಪರ್ಯಾಸ. ಯಾವುದೆ ವಸ್ತುವಾಗಲಿ ಕಟ್ಟಡ, ಕೋಟೆಗಳಾಗಲಿ ಅದರ ಮೂಲ ರೂಪದೊಂದಿಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಚೆನ್ನ. ಇದೆಲ್ಲದರ ನಡುವೆ ತಡವಾಗಿಯಾದರು, ಕೋಟೆಯನ್ನು ಪುನಶ್ಚೇತನಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಶುರುವಾಗಿರುವುದು ಸಂತಸದ ವಿಚಾರ.

ಶಿರಾ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳು

ಶ್ರೀ ಮರಡಿ ರಂಗನಾಥಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ, ಮರಡಿ ಗುಡ್ಡ:

ಶ್ರೀ ರಂಗನಾಥಸ್ವಾಮಿಗೆ ಸಮರ್ಪಿಸಲಾಗಿರುವ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಸಿರಾ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ರಂಗನಾಥಪುರ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಮರಡಿ ಗುಡ್ಡ ಎಂಬ ಗುಡ್ಡದ ಮೇಲೆ ಇದೆ.

ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಹಳ್ಳಿ ಶಿರಾ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಒಂದು ಹಳ್ಳಿ, ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮಣ್ಣಮ್ಮ ದೇವಿಯ ೭೦೦ ವರುಷ ಹಳೆಯ ದೇವಾಲಯವಿದೆ.

ಮಾಗೋಡು : ತುಮಕೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಶಿರಾ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಒಂದು ಗ್ರಾಮ.ಇದು ಶಿರಾ ನಗರದಿಂದ ೧೦ ಕಿ ಮೀ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ ಪೆಬ್ರವರಿ ತಿಂಗಳಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಕಂಬದ ರಂಗನಾಥಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಹೂವಿನ ರತೋತ್ಸವ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ವೈಭವದಿಂದ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಜಾತ್ರಾ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವಕ್ಕೆ ರಾಜಧಾನಿಯಿಂದಲೂ ಸಹ ಆಗಮಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದು ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪ೦ಚಾಯಿತಿ ಕೇ೦ದ್ರವಾಗಿದೆ ‘

ಬೇವಿನಹಳ್ಳಿ ಶಿರಾ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಒಂದು ಹಳ್ಳಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕ್ರತಿಕ ವೀರನೆಂದೇ ಖ್ಯಾತನಾದ ಜುಂಜಪ್ಪ ದೇವರು ನೆಲೆಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಹೆಸರಾಂತ ಜಾನಪದ ಕಲೆಯಾದ ಸೋಮನ ಕುಣಿತ ಮತ್ತು ಅರೆ ವಾದ್ಯ ಕಲಾವಿದರು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಬರಗೂರು ಶಿರಾ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಸ್ಥಳ. ಬರಗೂರು ರಾಮಚಂದ್ರಪ್ಪನವರು ಜನಿಸಿದ ಸ್ಥಳ.

ಕಗ್ಗಲಡು: ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭಾಗದ ತುಮಕೂರು ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಶಿರಾ ತಾಲೂಕಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಒಂದು ಹಳ್ಳಿ. ಸಿರಾ ಪಟ್ಟಣದಿಂದ ಸಿರಾ-ಚೆಂಗಾವರ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು ೯ ಕಿ.ಮಿ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಈ ಹಳ್ಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಮರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಣ್ಣದ ಕೊಕ್ಕರೆ (painted storks) ಮತ್ತು ನಾರೇಕ್ಯಾತ ಅಥವಾ ಬೂದುಬಕ (grey herons) ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳು ವಲಸೆ ಬಂದು ತಮ್ಮ ವಂಶಾಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಮಾಡುವುದರಿಂದ ೧೯೯೯ರಿಂದ ಇದೊಂದು ಪಕ್ಷಿಧಾಮವೆಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ೧೯೯೯ರಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಪಕ್ಷಿಧಾಮ ತುಮಕೂರಿನ ವೈಲ್ಡ್ ಲೈಫ್ ಅವೇರ್ ನೇಚರ್ ಕ್ಲಬ್ (WANC) ಎಂಬ ಸರ್ಕಾರೇತರ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಿಂದ ಹೊರಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು

The region is famed for its production of traditional wooden toys and has now expanded into many other wooden handicrafts. The main roads through the town are lined with stands selling these items, and haggling is encouraged.

There is a cool folklore museum right in the center of town, where you can learn all about Indian mythology. There are also a number of great restaurants filled with hidden culinary gems waiting to be discovered.

11. Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in neighboring Tamil Nadu, Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary is a large, peaceful, location to try your hand at searching for elephants.

Located close to the Nandi Hills area, Chikballapur has plenty of sites within its own territory to justify an excellent day trip. The Ranganatha Swamy Temple is a very ornate temple located just outside the town, with a marvelous statue of Vishnu and interesting carvings along its walls.

The restaurants here are excellent, serving some of the best vegetarian food India has to offer. You can also try the local delicacy of tender coconut, which is where the pulp of a coconut is finely mashed to create a refreshing beverage.

Hosur is an interesting mix of old and new located in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. Hosur started off as a village and was constructed in the early 13th century.

Aspects of this era can still be found to this day, including Chandira Choodeswarar Temple, built by a king from the Hoysala Dynasty a few decades after the establishment of the town.

Following India’s independence and a restructuring across the country, Hosur saw a large influx of Tamil people into the newest area of the state. This has resulted in a series of modern features and an interesting view into contemporary Tamil culture.

8. See The Buddha Engraving At Khao Chi Chan

Khao Chi Chan or Buddha Mountain as English speakers refer to it is the biggest engraving of Buddha in the world. The Limestone hill that has the Buddha engraved on it used to be an active site for the construction industry before it was closed down. The rocks have a story that has become part of folklore over the years and you can see the story on a sign as you get closer to the rocks, the story goes that an old couple called Ta Kreng and Yai Riem were traveling to a neighboring province to see a man called Ta Monglai to ask that his daughter marry their son, on the way the boat ran into a storm and they died at sea. It is guarded by two colorful yaks that each carry a sword to protect the pagoda. Just down from the pagoda is a small hall that has a wax casting of the monk that built the pagoda, he is sitting inside a boat and locals come and prey here as he is highly revered.

Luong Pordaeng was a Buddhist monk and in 1973 he died whilst in the seated meditative position, it was decided that his body would be preserved and he has been on display in a glass case ever since, forty years later the body is still in excellent condition with no signs of degradation at all. Unlike westerners most Buddhist Thais are not frightened of dying as they believe it to be one step closer to enlightenment, seeing the dead body gives them something to reflect on. The body is stored in the Wat Khunaram temple and local people visit the temple daily to pray and make merit, visitors are very welcome to come and look around the temple.
